Imperial College London
Imperial College London is renowned for its research into the future needs of the energy industry.
This is coordinated through the Energy Futures Lab (www.imperial.ac.uk/energyfutureslab/ ), which seeks to promote major interdisciplinary activities across the College’s departments and faculties which address key long-term energy issues. One such initiative is The Integrated, Clean Production of Fossil Fuels.
One area of focus in this area is the unconventional oil and gas resources that will play an increasingly important role in our future. Heavy oil is one such resource and at Imperial College, we are paying particular attention to the following areas:
- Characterisation and reservoir modeling of heavy oil reservoirs
- Thermophysical properties and composition characterization of heavy oils
- Asphaltenes : oil properties, deposition and downstream equipment fouling
- Chemical treatment of heavy oils
- Computer simulation and theoretical models for heavy oil properties, asphaltene/wax/resin behaviour
This work is being carried out in the departments of Chemical Engineering ( www.imperial.ac.uk/chemicalengineering ) and Earth Science and Engineering ( www.imperial.ac.uk/earthscienceandengineering/research/cosmic )
