China Petroleum & Petrochemical Equipment Industry Association (CPEIA) was founded in 1985. It is a nationwide juridical association approved by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of China and voluntarily participated by enterprises and institutions (including R&D institutes and universities) engaged in manufacturing, trading and using of petroleum & petrochemical equipment from different sectors and regions of the country. Most of the 900 member's with different ownerships have already passed the ISO9000 quality system certificates and most of their products are API and ASME certificated.

The top authority of CPEIA is its General Assembly and its executant is the Directorate. The president of CPEIA is taken turns by the leaders of giant enterprises such as CNPC, , SINOPEC and CNOOC. The 6th directorate is constituted by 160 members, including: 53 Standing Directors and 17 Vice Presidents. The present President of CPEIA is Mr. Wang Jiming, the Vice Chairman the board of SINOPEC and the member of Chinese Academy of Engineering.

The headquarter of CPEIA is located in Beijing and the Secretariat takes the routine operations.

CPEIA has two branches in Beijing, they are ★ The China Cooperation Network for ASME Code Items and ★The Branch Association for Expanding Joints; and 4 Professional Committees out of Beijing, they are: ★The Oil Drill & Extraction Machinery Committee [Consists of manufacturers of oil & geological exploration equipment, complete set of dill rigs for land, offshore and desert operations, all kinds of oil extraction and oil & gas transportation equipment ],★ The Petrochemical Equipment Committee [Consists of Manufacturers of refinery and all related machines, pumps, valves and vessels], ★ The Wellhead Equipment and Drilling & Extraction Tools Committee [Consists of Manufacturers of wellhead equipment for oil & gas extraction, blowout protect and control system and drilling & extraction tools] and ★ The Energy-saving Oil Pumping Equipment Committee [Consists of manufacturers of pumping machine and the matching energy-saving electric motors, speed reducers, oil-well pumps and sucker rods].

The Tenet of CPEIA is to serve the industry and its members, to be a connecting bridge between the government and enterprises, to reflect opinions and desires and protect rights and interests of its members, to enhance exchanging and cooperation between its members and with foreign enterprises for the development of the industry. The main tasks of CPEIA are: To investigate and research for framing the industrial development strategy; To make proposals to the government on industrial & technical policies, laws and regulations; To be commissioned to collect, analyze and study the economical & technological information of the industry; To organize the establishment of guild regulations, stipulations and autonomic rules; To harmonize the correlations of its members and protect their legal rights; To assist organizing the constituting and revising of national and industrial standards; To organize economical & technical exchanges at home and abroad for promoting the international cooperation; To promote the Brand Strategy, recommend enterprises for National Award; To push forward the problem tackling, research, appraisal and application of new technologies, technics, materials and products and conduct technical trainings; To guide and help enterprises to improve their management and upgrade their competitiveness in the market; To be authorized by the administrations to checkup licenses for special equipment (pressure pipe elements) manufacturers; To organize the national and international industrial exhibitions; To release industrial information, edit and publish magazines & books and run the website.
