last modified 2008-12-03 15:43 — expired

December 3, 2008 BEIJING -- CNPC, parent company of PetroChina, has started to develop the offshore Yuedong oilfield in Bohai Bay, following an overall development plan.

A report on CNPC website says the development is one part of the effort for CNPC to form offshore production capacity of more than three million tons/year.

The Yuedong block will use cyclic steam stimulation technology in developing its reserves, most of which are heavy oil. It is the first time for China to use this technology in offshore E&P.

As part of CNPC's Liaohe Oilfield, the Yuedong block will contribute to Liaohe Oilfield's target of annually producing 12 million tons of oil for 10 consecutive years (equivalent to 240,986 b/d) said CNPC. For production, the Yuedong oilfield will build four artificial islands, one sea-land oil pipeline and one onland united station.
