Visualization of steam zone displacement research
Researchers from Penn State recently published a paper on the use of X-ray computed tomography in core samples to better understand the effects of steam flooding for improved heavy oil recovery.
The paper was presented at the May 2008 SPE Saudi Arabia Section Technical Symposium in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. This is a good example of innovative uses of imaging technology to better understand the complex physics and displacement mechanisms of steam flooding to further improve heavy oil recovery.
