The use of 4D seismic in managing heavy oil field

last modified 2008-04-14 17:09

This article describes the benefits of using 4D seismic to manage and optimize the Marlim heavy oil field of the Campos basis of offshore Brazil.

The Marlim field, located off the eastern Brazilian coast, is the largest producing oil field in Brazil. Three seismic surveys acquired in 1986, 1997, and 2005 have enabled improved reservoir-characterization and monitoring and according to the article, ultimately led to improved recovery through the location of bypassed reserves and optimized placement of infill wells.
