Predictive heavy oil model

PTAC describes a recently published computer model that helps researchers better understand the complex tradeoffs in optimizing heavy oil recovery.

huff and puffWe have previously discussed the research and publications from the Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada or PTAC. I wanted to share an interesting computer model PTAC recently published designed to help R&D teams better focus on the strategic factors key to heavy oil. The model is based on the assumption that heavy oil reservoirs will undergo multiple recovery mechanisms and new technology should therefore focus on optimizing recovery when primary heavy oil recovery is no longer economic.

The PTAC model is designed to calculate resource recovery, energy intensity, greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and operating costs based on the selected sequence of recovery technologies. It is an innovative approach that can allow both researchers and engineers to better understand the trade-offs inherent in the choice of any recovery technology.

You can find a full description of the model at the following link: http://www.ptac.org/cho/chop0701rmg.html
