Permanent downhole temperature sensing succeeds for low cost wells

last modified 2007-06-16 01:16

A discussion on distributed temperature sensing (DTS) systems.

This recent WorldOil.com article titled Permanent Downhole Temperature Sensing Succeeds for Low Cost Wells, describes an effort to assess the feasibility and economics of permanent downhole temperature sensing (DTS) in a number of on and offshore projects in Brunei.

There was a clear demonstration that advancements in DTS technology and standards have made it applicable for large scale deployments in low cost producers which is typical of many heavy oil operations.

As we look to increasing numbers of intelligent well completions, DTS will continue to play an important role in optimizing heavy oil operations - the establishment of standards and lower cost systems will allow it to be deployed at scale in the heavy oil industry.
