New report from National Energy Board of Canada

last modified 2007-03-18 03:58

Have you seen the new National Energy Board of Canada report Canada's Oil Sands - Opportunities and Challenges to 2015: An Update - June 2006? It revises the original 2004 report’s industry barometer reading.

The 2006 report updates key challenges faced by oil sands operators in Canada, including rising energy costs, capex costs (owing to steel and cement price increases), and growing concerns over labor shortages. Interestingly, it’s not only oil industry workers that are in question, but construction workers too (without whom, of course, any new projects or expansion plans will face a struggle to get underway).

Environmental factors and the challenges facing distribution are also covered, highlighting water usage, pipeline expansion issues, and market development.

The full report makes for interesting reading, or if you prefer the highlights, a support Q&A document is also available.
