NASA extending high temperature electronic chips
NASA researchers have designed and built a new circuit chip that might have applications to thermal heavy oil recovery.
Downhole and surface monitoring systems in thermal heavy oil operations are in part limited to their ability to operate in very high temperatures for long periods of time. According to a recent NASA press release, a breakthrough that represents a 100-fold increase in high temperature electronic circuit performance has been achieved. The new silicon carbide based integrated circuit chip may provide benefits to anything requiring long-lasting electronic circuits in very hot environments. This is a great example of a potential step change in technology that can greatly extend our ability to monitor and produce heavy oil. Click here for the full article.
