Improved analytical steamflood model

last modified 2008-02-01 14:55

A SPE paper describing improvements for the Jones analytical steamflood model.

For years, the heavy oil industry has been attempting to build analytical models for steamflood production performance prediction. One of the most widely-used models is the Jones model which incorporates oil displacement by steam and a three-component capture factor based on empirical correlations. The challenge with the Jones model however, is that peak oil prediction is usually significantly lower than the actual. SPE paper 97870 from Dr. Mamora of Texas A&M University details a study focused on improving this aspect of the Jones model.
