High pressure steam injection to extend the life of reservoirs in Oman

last modified 2008-04-14 17:09

An article highlighting steam injection and other EOR techniques in the oil fields of Oman.

The Natih oil reservoir in northern Oman contains a network of channels created by shrimp burrowing in the sand more than 100 million years ago. While produced for over 37 years, massive light and heavy oil reserves remain unrecovered. PDO is piloting high-pressure steam injection as an EOR approach  at the Fahud field and is also developing another major field at Qarn Alam using the same approach.

This is great example where heavy oil in complex reservoir environments is being produced economically through improved reservoir characterization and production techniques. The full article can be found at http://www.eandpnet.com/area/prod/871.htm.
