Fiber optics tool for continuous temperature monitoring

The SPE describes a new DTS system that could advance temperature monitoring in heavy oil wells.

In our current feature article, Heavy oil moving forward, I outlined key factors that will drive the heavy oil industry including the need for new technology that will deliver a paradigm shift required to meet world energy demands. One of those key technologies is continuous monitoring that enables improved recovery and subsequent ROI in thermal heavy oil operations. For CSS and SAGD wells, recovery is in part limited by our ability to get consistent and accurate down-hole temperature measurements.
