Application of titanium-alloy tubing for HP/HT

The June 2009, JPT Online, features an article on testing being conducted using titanium-alloy tubing in high pressure/high temperature (HP/HT) environments that could be applicable to heavy oil operations.

Extreme temperatures and corrosive H2S production are typical in many heavy oil operations especially those involving thermal methods such as in situ combution or steam injection. These extreme conditions can damage production and injection well tubing requiring expensive workovers. This article, which summarizes SPE 115708, suggests new titanium alloys can extend tubing string life and reduce operational costs.
