Multilevel well optimization
Application of thermal simulation for multilevel well optimization...
In the next series of posts, I would like to share a number of important technical papers and case studies. The first of which is SPE 53950 : Application of Large Thermal Sector Models in a Field Performance Optimization Study of a Mature, Heavy Oil Field.
In the paper we present a methodology for multilevel well optimization and provide several case studies for different numbers of laterals and their vertical spacings in optimizing heavy oil recovery. The optimization strategy is thus to estimate the desirable number and spacing of the producing laterals - a key conclusion is that the number and positioning of multilevel producers greatly depends on the fluid viscosity and the temperature gradient, which is in turn influenced substantially by the reservoir thickness and heating process.
